People Will Talk-Don't Listen

People are going to talk about you.  Good or bad, they'll do it anyway.  Unfortunately, the world doesn't care anymore about being polite or caring about other people's feelings.

But the thing is that it doesn't matter.  If you live the life you know you're supposed to be living, then it doesn't matter what they say.  Let them talk.  In reality, if you're doing something great, then they talk negatively because you threaten them.  You threaten the status quo.  You might change something, and that's scary.  The normals don't want you to do anything differently.

You might hear them.  You might consider what they say.  You might talk back.  But whatever you do, please don't listen.

There Are No Problems

There are only opportunities for creativity.  Sometimes we can get paralyzed by the problems we have.  We have to find a way around them though. No, we can’t just ignore the problems, and we can’t pretend like they aren’t there.  They’re there, and they’re real.

This gives us more of a chance to come up with something more creative to do.

Run into a wall?  What can you do?

    Climb it

    Go around it

    Tunnel under it

What about blast clean through the middle of it?  Or, better yet, blow the whole freaking thing up.  No more wall.  Problem solved.

We were given creativity to use.  If you’ve got a problem, don’t go with all of the conventional solutions.  Find something no one has ever done and do that.  That’s how we got America.  Actually, it’s how we got almost everything new.  We just use the opportunities for creativity to create a new world.

The World Will Knock You Down Multiple Times; Don’t Knock Yourself Down.

This is just the world’s not-so-nice way of testing you.  It’s testing to see if you’ll get back up.  If you’ll take another step.  If you’ll leave that awful job.  If you’ll put actions to your words.

No, it’s not easy.  When you’re facing the entire world, you seem almost destined to fail.  But you only fail if you stop trying after you’ve failed.  Then it’s a sure failure.  But if you keep on going and don’t quit until it’s a success, then it’s a guaranteed win.

Yeah, it takes a lot to stand up to a world that’s trying to knock you down at every turn, and you make it that much easier for it to win if you knock yourself down first.  So do me a favor-don’t.

Inertia Works Both Ways

Inertia is that thing you learned about in science class. It’s what makes a boulder from moving.  And it keeps a car rolling downhill even when you’re not stepping on the gas.

And that’s the great thing about inertia.  It works both ways.

If you’re the type that prefers to sit around and never change anything in your life, then congratulations, you’ll stay there indefinitely.  But you have to remember the other side inertia-if you choose to get up and move, inertia helps you keep moving.

Inertia doesn’t care what you do.  It’s there to serve you in whatever you choose to do. That’s why the moving is so important.  You move and inertia keeps you moving in whatever direction you choose.

And that’s another thing with inertia-it goes in whatever direction you do.  If you turn left when you need to go right, then inertia prefers to continue going left.  But, the great thing is that it’s much easier to make a U-turn while you’re on the move than when you’re still sitting in the garage trying to decide if you’ll even turn on the engine.

The Only Time You Have is Now

Tomorrow might not get here.  Yesterday's already gone.  What about today?

What have you done today?  Anything?  Nothing?

The only time you have to do something is today.  Sure, we should always plan on tomorrow.  But that doesn't mean that we can put things off until tomorrow.  Don't go into tomorrow wishing you had done it yesterday.

Yesterday's gone.  You only have now.

Don't Stop

Ever have a nagging feeling that something's missing?  That something isn't quite what it should be?

Keep looking.  I can't tell you exactly how to find what you're looking for.  But I can guarantee this:  If you keep looking for it, you'll find it.  So don't stop looking for it.

Making it Work in the Tough Times

Everyone complains about how tough the times are.  Well, they’re tough for everyone.  If you’re reading this, you’re already ahead of about 80% of the world.  You have access to the internet, a computer or something similar.  You can afford to pay for one or both of those.  Oh yeah, and you can read.  Add all those up and you’re among the top 8% of the wealthiest people in the world, believe it or not.

But whatever it is that you’re doing, the tough times are when you can see what you’re really made of.  Make it through the rough patches, when it’s hard, when there’s no  money or resources, and you can make it through anything.  It’ll only get better from here on out.

If you can make it work in the tough times.  The easy times will be even easier.

What's the Next Step?

I'm always asking myself what I need to do next.  What's the right move?  Which way do I turn?  What's the next step?  Where do I go from here?

But quite honestly, what the next step is doesn't matter too much.  The only thing that's really important is that you keep moving.  Just do something.  Albeit, something productive, but just do something.  Even a small move in the right direction is better than standing still.

If it helps, think of a car.  You can turn the steering wheel of a car all you want.  However, the car won't turn left or right until it's first moving forward.  Also, it makes it a heck of a lot easier to turn the wheel when the car's moving.

Don't worry about whether your next step is the right one.  Just worry about whether you're taking any step at all.

Waiting for Who Knows What

We're all waiting for someone in government to step up and save the economy.  We're waiting for someone to fix education.  We're waiting for someone to end all the wars.  We're waiting for mighty giants and superheroes that can do things in one fell swoop.

The only problem is that things don't change in one fell swoop.

The other problem is that we're not waiting on gigantic personalities and people will super abilities.  We're waiting on you.  We're waiting on you to do what you can right now.  We're waiting for you to take a tiny step in the right direction. Basically, we're just waiting for you.

What are you waiting for?

Change the Status Quo, Starting Now

I've wanted something to fight for, or against, for a long time.  I'm constantly frustrated by the way people handle their lives (including me).  I hate how people roll over and accept things because it's too hard to change.  The mediocre sucks.  The mediocre life sucks.  The good enough job sucks. The average marriage sucks.  The average parent sucks.  I could go on.

Why do we accept these things?   Why don't we push our selves further?  Why don't we try to make our lives better by eradicating the status quo?

Well, we can. And we should.

And we will.
